BL-51 Huāng Gate

肓门 〔肓門〕huāng mén

Alternate names: BL-46

Channel: BL, Foot Greater Yáng (tài yáng) Bladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lower back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the first lumbar vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.

Classic location: In the depression either side of the spine, below the thirteenth vertebra. The point is located in straight sitting posture. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: Posterior branches of the 1st lumbar artery and vein. The lateral branch of the 12th thoracic nerve.

Action: Disperses food and abducts stagnation; softens hardness.

Modern indications: Abdominal pain; constipation; glomus lump; diseases of the breast.

Classic indications: Diseases of the breast; major hardness below the heart.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 10‒30 min.
