BL-50 Stomach Granary

胃仓 〔胃倉〕wèi cāng

Alternate names: BL-45

Channel: BL, Foot Greater Yáng (tài yáng) Bladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the twelfth thoracic vertebra, 3 cùn lateral to the midline.

Classic location: Three cùn either side of the spine, below the twelfth vertebra. The point is found in straight sitting posture. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: Posterior branches of the subcostal artery and vein. The lateral branch of the posterior ramus of the 11th thoracic nerve.

Action: Harmonizes the stomach and transforms dampness; rectifies qì and disinhibits the center.

Modern indications: Abdominal distension; pain in the stomach duct; food accumulation in infants; water swelling; pain in the spinal column.

Classic indications: Water swelling; infantile food accumulation.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5 cùn downward oblique insertion. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 10‒30 min.
