BL-37 Gate of Abundance

殷门 〔殷門〕yīn mén

Alternate names: BL-51

Channel: BL, Foot Greater Yáng (tài yáng) Bladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the posterior aspect of the thigh, 6 cùn inferior to the gluteal fold on the line connecting BL-36 and BL-40.

Classic location: Six cùn below Support (BL-36). (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: Laterally, the 3rd perforating branches of the deep femoral artery and vein. The posterior femoral cutaneous nerve.

Action: Strengthens the lumbar vertebrae; soothes the sinews and quickens the network vessels; relieves pain.

Modern indications: Lumbar pain; wilting-impediment (wěi bì).

Classic indications: Outpour diarrhea with malign bloody stool; swelling of the outer thigh.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.7‒1.5 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒5 cones; pole 5‒10 min.
