承扶 〔承扶〕 chéng fú

Alternate names: 承扶皮部 chéng fú pí bù, Skin Region Support; 皮部 pí bù, Skin Region; 皮郄 pí xī, Skin Cleft; 肉 ròu xī, Flesh Cleft; 阴关 yīn guān, Yin Joint; BL-50

Channel: BL, foot greater yáng (tài yáng) bladder channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the posterior aspect of the thigh, inferior to the ischial tuberosity, in the middle of the gluteal fold.

Classical location: In the crease below the buttock and above the inner face of the thigh. From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: The artery and vein running alongside the sciatic nerve. Superficially, the posterior femoral cutaneous nerve; deeper, the sciatic nerve.

Action: Soothes the sinews and quickens the network vessels.

Modern indications: Hemorrhoids; pain in lumbar, sacral, gluteal and femoral regions.

Classical indications: Enduring hemorrhoids and with swelling of the buttocks; inhibited urination.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.7‒1.5 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3 cones; pole 5‒10 min.

Needle sensation: Distension and numbness, spreading towards the knees or feet.
