BL-24 Sea-of-Qì Transport

气海俞 〔氣海俞〕qì hǎi shù

Channel: BL, Foot Greater Yáng (tài yáng) Bladder Channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the lower back, level with the inferior border of the spinous process of the third lumbar vertebra, 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.

Classic location: One cùn and five fēn either side of the spine, below the fifteenth vertebra. The point is found in straight sitting posture. (Zhēn Jiǔ Dà Chéng)

Local anatomy: The posterior rami of the 3rd lumbar artery and vein. The lateral cutaneous branch of the posterior ramus of the 2nd lumbar nerve.

Action: Regulates and supplements qì and blood; strengthens the lumbus and knees.

Modern indications: Rumbling intestines; abdominal distension; anal fistula; lumbar pain.

Classic indications: Hemorrhoids and fistulas.

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.5‒1.0 cùn perpendicular insertion. Moxa: 3‒7 cones; pole 10‒20 min.
