BL-5 Fifth Place

五处 〔五處〕 wǔ chù

Alternate names: 巨处 jù chù, Great Place

Channel: BL, foot greater yáng (tài yáng) bladder channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the superior aspect of the head, in a depression 1 cùn within the anterior hairline and 1.5 cùn lateral to the midline.

Classical location: Five fēn back from Deviating Turn (BL-4), one cùn and five fēn each side of Upper Star on the governing vessel (GV-23). From The Golden Mirror of Medicine (医宗金鑑 yī zōng jīn jiàn)

Local anatomy: See BL-4.

Action: Diffuses and discharges wind-heat; clears the head and brightens the eyes.

Modern indications: Headache; dizzy vision; epilepsy.

Classical indications: Heavy-headedness; tugging and slackening; arched-back rigidity; wind impediment (fēng bì).

Needle stimulus: Needling: 0.3‒0.5 cùn backward transverse insertion. Moxa: 3 cones; pole 5‒15 min.
