BL-3 Eyebrow Ascension

眉冲 〔眉衝〕 méi chōng

Channel: BL, foot greater yáng (tài yáng) bladder channel

Modern location: An acupoint located on the superior aspect of the head, 0.5 cùn within the anterior hairline and 0.75 cùn lateral to the midline.

Classical location: Above the eyebrow, between Spirit Court (GV-24) and Deviating Turn (BL-4). From The Great Compendium of Acupuncture and Moxibustion (针灸大成 zhēn jiǔ dà chéng)

Local anatomy: See BL-2.

Action: Dispels wind and clears heat; brightens the eyes.

Modern indications: Headache; dizziness; nasal congestion; epilepsy.

Classical indications: Nasal congestion; the five epilepsies.

Needle stimulus: Needling: O.3‒0.5 cùn upward transverse insertion. Moxa: pole 5‒10 min.
